Sustainability

A business with purpose beyond profit. Here’s what that means in practice, across our facilities, our supply chains and our communities.

Sustainable Living,
Honestly Pursued

To us, authentic sustainability encompasses our entire business: a safe and healthy workforce, prosperous communities, a responsible value chain, and a commitment to do the right thing even when nobody’s watching.

We aspire to enrich the lives of everyone we reach and do business with. We don’t claim to be perfect, but we are genuine, and we’re making measurable progress year on year.

Designed to Waste Less

Waste reduction is engineered into how we manufacture, not managed after the fact. GreenMount Foods leads the way with zero waste production principles, maximising yield from raw materials and finding productive uses for by-products across our network.

Our natural formulation philosophy reinforces this: products made from real ingredients like roasted bones, vegetables and herbs, with no artificial additives, no added thickeners and no shortcuts. Honest food, made honestly.

Sourced with Care,
Traced with Confidence

Our products are only as responsible as the ingredients that go into them. We prioritise local sourcing across Australia and New Zealand, supporting the regional growers and producers our industry depends on.

Our vegetable growers are New Zealand GAP and GrowSafe certified, with agricultural inputs independently audited for food safety compliance. Every product is fully traceable from raw material to finished goods.

Accountable
to Recognised Standards

We hold ourselves to standards that are audited, not asserted. Across our network, our facilities hold SQF certification, HACCP and GMP accreditation, and Halal accreditation, alongside FDA registration and USDA listing for export to the United States. Artisan Food Co also holds a 5-Star Eat Safe rating from Ipswich City Council.

These certifications aren’t trophies. They’re the working systems that let our partners trust every batch, every delivery, every time.

Caring for
Our Communities

Our facilities are part of real communities in Brisbane, Mount Maunganui and Rotorua, and we take that seriously. From local employment and skills development to celebrating the cultural diversity of our teams, we believe a food business should make its neighbourhood better, not just busier.

A Group Committed
to Positive Change

Purpose Foods is proudly part of the PTG Food group of companies, generational investors who think on behalf of generations to come. Through initiatives like The Habitat and The Habitat Foundation, which support biodiversity conservation, research, education and sustainable tourism across Southeast Asia, our group channels business success into meaningful environmental outcomes, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

It’s a reminder of what we believe at every level of our group: business done well can be a force for good.

FAQs

It starts at the design stage, not the disposal stage. Recipes and processes are built to maximise yield from every raw material, by-products are channelled into productive uses rather than landfill, and packaging decisions are made with the full product lifecycle in mind. GreenMount Foods leads this practice across our network.
Significantly. Retort pouch products achieve up to two years of shelf life without preservatives, which means less spoilage in storage, transport and kitchens, and reduced reliance on energy-intensive cold chain. Long life done naturally is one of the most practical waste reductions in food.
They’re New Zealand’s grower-level assurance standards. NZ GAP covers good agricultural practice and GrowSafe covers the safe, responsible use of agrichemicals. Our vegetable growers hold these certifications, with all agricultural inputs independently audited, so responsibility starts in the field, not the factory.
The Habitat Penang Hill is a nature discovery centre set in 130 million year old rainforest in Malaysia, established by our parent group. Its proceeds fund The Habitat Foundation, which supports biodiversity conservation, environmental research, education and training across Southeast Asia.
Our parent group PTG Food works in partnership with WWF on carbon emission reduction, alongside initiatives like building the greenest bakery in Shanghai. These group-level commitments set the direction for how our facilities approach energy and emissions.
Our group’s sustainability commitments are structured around three goals, enrich lives, do the right thing, and inspire positive change, each aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It gives our sustainability work an external benchmark rather than a self-marked scorecard.
Simpler formulations mean simpler supply chains. Products made from real ingredients like bones, vegetables and herbs avoid the extended processing and additive supply chains behind artificial alternatives, and they’re more transparent for the people eating them.
Sourcing from growers and producers across Australia and New Zealand cuts food miles, supports regional economies and gives us direct visibility of farming practices. It’s better for the environment and better for traceability.
